Ms. Ana María Bigas-Kennerley, Esq. joined Casillas, Santiago & Torres, LLC in January, 2020, where she serves as Special Counsel in the Corporate and Tax Divisions. Prior to joining the firm, Ms. Bigas worked in a boutique law firm for 10 years working in the areas of employee benefits and employment taxes. She also gained experienced in the area of taxes by working at the Puerto Rico Department of the Treasury, holding the positions of Assistant Secretary for Administrative Appeals and Administrative Judge. During her period working at the Puerto Rico Department of the Treasury, and in conjunction with the Legal Affairs Division, she provided assistance and support to the Tax Division at the Department of Justice, in various tax proceedings.

During her years of experience, Ms. Bigas has assisted clients in due diligence procedures, negotiated agreements with the Municipalities, and represented clients before the Puerto Rico Department of the Treasury and the IRS in various tax matters. She has also advice clients on taxation and reporting of severance and settlement cases as well as other tax matters such as property, excise, municipal license and sales and use taxes. Ms. Bigas has also assisted clients in a variety of employee benefit matters, including implementation, design, and administration of qualified and non-qualified retirement plans.
